Overview

In Dallas, TX, US, the legality of cannabis is a complex issue. Medical cannabis is legal in Texas in very limited circumstances. The Texas Compassionate Use Act, enacted in 2015, allows for the use of high-CBD, low-THC cannabis oil only for patients with intractable epilepsy. The law was expanded in 2019 to include more conditions, but the THC content is still capped at 0.5%. Recreational use of cannabis, however, remains illegal in Texas. Possession of up to two ounces is a Class B misdemeanor, punishable by up to 180 days in prison, a fine of up to $2000, and the suspension of one's driver's license.

Regarding related substances such as Delta 8, Delta 9, THCA, and CBD, the laws are also varied. Delta 8, a less potent cousin of Delta 9 THC, is legal in Texas. Delta 9 THC, the main psychoactive component of cannabis, is illegal. THCA, a non-psychoactive precursor to THC, is legal when derived from hemp. CBD is legal in Texas, as long as it comes from hemp and contains less than 0.3% THC. However, the production and sale of CBD products are heavily regulated.
